Bear Flag Construction (BFC) is a custom home building construction company located in Austin, Texas, and is a BBB Accredited business with an A+ rating (Better Business Bureau). Thomas Ide is the owner and operator of BFC.
Tom initially established Bear Flag Construction in 1985 after serving a 10-year apprenticeship. The first BFC was a comprehensive construction company serving homeowners and small businesses alike. In 2005, Tom revitalized Bear Flag Construction (BFC) in the Austin area.
Tom has extensive knowledge of the building industry, with over 25 years of hands-on building experience. His background includes running complete historical restorations in Massachusetts to building custom homes in the San Francisco Bay area.
Tom’s first employment in the business was as a helper on the restoration of Norman Rockwell’s first home in Stockbridge, MA. The three story Colonial was dated by a local historian as having been built between 1670 and 1730.
In 1998, Tom moved to Texas, where he worked as construction superintendent for two custom home builders in the Barton Creek area of Austin. He later entered into a three-year-long successful custom home building partnership. Then, in 2005, Tom rejuvenated his own construction company, Bear Flag Construction.
Tom is thrilled to be running his own company again: “As owner and building contractor of Bear Flag Construction, I’m able to be on the job to oversee subcontractors, to schedule each trade to achieve a seamless progression, and to coordinate the jobs from start to finish.”
Tom also appreciates the opportunity to present each client with a comprehensive photo journal at the completion of each job: ”Just a little something extra. Most clients are at their jobs during many of the critical moments of the construction process. I’ve always enjoyed keeping a pictorial essay of each project. The “before’s” and “after’s” on a remodel, or the un-cleared lot with a shot from the same spot after construction of the home or addition in place, can only be done in real time.”
